Kwara Assembly passes 9 bills, resolves 20 motions in 1 year

The Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Yakubu Danladi Salihu has said that the 10th Assembly passed nine bills and resolved 20 motions within one year of its inauguration.

Speaking in Ilorin during the celebration of the one year anniversary and legislative achievements, Danladi-Salihu commended his colleagues for the rancor-free process that led to his emergence as Speaker of the Assembly for a second term having served as speaker of ninth Assembly, on June 13, 2023.

According to him, the support he received from members of the house was a reflection of the confidence that have been built among them and a demonstration of their democratic belief and values.

“We have indeed made significant strides in our first year, and we are proud of our achievements.

“We have worked tirelessly to ensure that the mandate given to us by the good people of Kwara is fulfilled,” he said.

The bills enacted include the Kwara Education Trust Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (Establishment) Bill, 2024.
These two bills, according to the speaker, were aimed at enhancing education and healthcare in the state.

“Our commitment to education and healthcare is unwavering, and we will continue to prioritize these sectors for the betterment of our people.

“The Assembly also considered nine landmark reports from various committees, addressing issues like harassment, land encroachment, and fraudulent activities.

“Resolutions were passed, and recommendations made to the executive arm for implementation.

“We have ensured that our legislative duties are discharged with diligence and transparency, and we will continue to work with the executive arm to ensure that our resolutions are implemented,” Danladi-Salihu added.

Danladi-Salihu, who is also the Chairman of APC Speakers’ Conference, praised his colleagues for their dedication and commitment to the state’s development.

He acknowledged the support of the executive arm, led by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for their collaborative approach to governance.

“We appreciate the support of the executive arm and the cooperation of the security agencies and media. We also thank our party, the APC, and our supporters for their encouragement,” Danladi-Salihu said.

The Speaker emphasized the assembly’s resolve to continue serving the people of Kwara State with dedication and passion, adding that he looked forward to more achievements in the coming years.

“We will not rest on our oars; we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the dividends of democracy are delivered to our people,” the Speaker added.
