Kano tops in Northern Nigeria, 9th nationwide in IGR

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has expressed satisfaction with state’s ranking as first in Northern Nigeria and ninth nationally in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Kano said that Governor Yusuf expressed delight when the Executive Chairman of the Kano Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), Zaid Abubakar, briefed him on the ranking during the induction ceremony of newly recruited KIRS staff at the Government House, Kano.

Abubakar attributed the achievement to reforms in the revenue sector under the present administration.

The KIRS Chairman commended Yusuf for his commitment to institutional reforms and professionalism in the public service.

Dawakin-Tofa stated that 120 permanent and pensionable officers were employed across key revenue cadres to sustain and improve the state’s revenue ranking.

Yusuf warned that his administration had zero-tolerance for corruption, abuse of office, or unethical conduct.

The Commissioner for Finance, Dr Ismail Aliyu Danmaya, congratulated the newly inducted officers and emphasised that effective revenue administration was vital to Kano State’s development agenda.( NAN)
