Commission tasks participants to enhance better life with digital skills

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrant and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) has called on Persons of Concern to improve their lives with skills they ACQUIRED on digital training.

The commission has built the capacity of 200 Persons of Concern on various skills to enhance a better life for them and their families.

The Federal Commissioner of NCFRMI, Hajiya Imaan Sulauman-Ibrahim, gave the charge on Friday in Abuja at the closing ceremony of the 4-day capacity development on digital skills and marketing.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim said the country has resolved to move from analogue to digital ways of doing things, adding that is why the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy was established.

“So, I want to advise our participants, who are Persons of Concern that the practical training should continue in form of collaboration amongst yourselves so that those that know better will always help those that are slow learners.

“Try to do your plan and market your product digitally. This training will help you become well to do. NITDA has done a wonderful job.

“We started with the 200 of you; we will continue to ensure that we meet our target of empowering 10,000 Persons of Concern in the NCFRMI’s Skill Up Programme of the commission.

“Now that you have learnt, I want you to use the skills to better your lives and that of your family members,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim said.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim was represented at the event by Alhaji Mohammed Bello, the Director of Human Resources with the commission.

In his remark, the Director-General, NITDA, Malam Inuwa Abdullahi, congratulated the participants for acquiring the training.

“You all have worked hard, but the real work starts now.

“This is the beginning of our concerted effort to work with our partners to support Persons of Concerns.

“The capacity you have now can make you become employers of labour. It can enhance your status and standard of living. The world has gone digital and with the digital skills you have, the sky is your beginning,” he said.

Abdullahi was also represented by Mr Peter Emakpor, the Head of e-Government Training Centre of NITDA.

A beneficiary, Mrs Josephine Stephen, the Woman Leader in IDP Camps in Abuja, appreciated NCFRMI and NITDA for the opportunity given them to participate in the capacity building training.

“The training was an eye opener to make wealth; as we leave here we shall go and train others. With this training, we shall overcome poverty. Our lives and that of our children will be better now.

“We were taught about digital marketing and many things. More grace to NCFRMI and NITDA,” she said.

Other participants also expressed delight and appreciation to NCFRMI and NITDA.

Miss Ladi Paul from Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno but taking refuge at the New Kuchingoro IDP Camp in Abuja, said she can now confirm that the Federal Government has not forgotten about them.

“Before now, I don’t have an ICT skill, but after the training, I now have skills to carry out digital marketing and other computer programming. I will empower my family and others,” she said.

Another participant, Mr Emmanuel Tamunotonye, said he had learnt so much.

“From here, I will use my knowledge to start something like graphic design, digital marketing and many others. I believe that I can earn a living with this to help myself and my family.”

NAN reports that the capacity development commenced on Monday with 200 Persons of Concern, with the expectation of meeting the 10,000 target within the shortest possible time.
