Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has assured contingents to the 2025 National Universities Games (NUGA), holding in the state of adequate security.
Mutfwang gave the assurance on Tuesday in Jos during an inspection tour of sporting facilities under construction at the permanent site of the University of Jos (UJ).
NUGA was established in 1966 at the University of Ibadan, to foster university level sports events in the country.
While expressing pleasure over the development, Mutfwang identified sports as a veritable tool for unification, stating that all modalities had been put in place to ensure a hitch-free sporting event.
He commended the management of UJ for a thorough job, assuring them that the state government, through the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, would be readily available to lend every necessary support.
“It is a delight to inspect the facilities for the upcoming NUGA Games today, it is also an honour to host this event in Plateau State.
“The state is, therefore, committed to ensuring that the event is successful in every sense of it.
“I want to congratulate the University for the efforts put towards the preparations, we would ensure that maximum security is provided, logistics will be well taken care of,” Mutfwang pledged.
The governor who also appreciated the organisers of the games for their efforts in ensuring that quality work was undertaken in spite of the financial constraints, expressed optimism that future plans would be elaborate.
Responding, Prof. Ishaya Pam, Chairman of the Local Organiding Committee, who briefed the governor on current challenges with the preparations, however, expressed optimism that the committee would surmount them.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, who was represented by Prof Patricia Gowon, Dep. Vice Chancellor (Academic), commended the governor for the support rendered and the visit.
This year’s games are scheduled to take place between November. 6 and 16, with more than 10,000 athletes expected to take part. (NAN)
