Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has restated his administration’s commitment to good healthcare delivery.
Makinde stated this on Tuesday in Ibadan while flagging-off a free medical mission, tagged: “First Quarter 2025 Omituntun Free Medical Mission”.
The governor, who underscored the importance of good health, said his administration started the initiative of providing functional primary healthcare facility in each ward of the state.
According to him, each of the 354 wards in the state has functional primary healthcare facility now.
He enjoined residents to maximise opportunity of the free medical services.
He further stated that his administration rested on four pillars under which it had been providing good governance in the state.
Listing the four pillars as Security, Education, Agriculture and Health, Makinde said his government had been performing excellently well in all the sectors.
He thanked the people, who had played one role or the other toward realising his administration’s programmes and policies.
In her welcome address, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, said the free medical mission, which commenced fully in 2020 was designed to bring healthcare directly to the people.
Ajetunmobi said the programme, which targeted people in underserved communities, had since become a cornerstone of the state’s public health strategy.
She explained that the 2025 programme came with remarkable innovations tailored to current health realities:
According to her, the programme will include cervical cancer screening and breast examinations to tackle rising concerns around women’s health;
“Expanded dental care services throughout the outreach period, and nutrition packs for children identified as malnourished are also included.
“In addition, Tuberculosis screening, in line with our state’s push toward early detection and control is part of the programme,” the commissioner stated.
She commended Makinde, saying under his leadership, the state health system hads seen unprecedented transformation.
She stressed that the transformation was achievable through robust investments in health infrastructure, human resources, and system strengthening initiatives. (NAN)
