NYSC inducts 1115 corps members in Delta, 1341 in Borno

The National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) on Friday swore-in 1,115 corps members for the 2023 Batch ‘A’ Stream 2 deployed to Delta State and 1,341 to Borno State on Friday in Katsina.

The corps members posted to Borno usually camp in Katsina since the Boko Haram crisis in the state.

The corps members in Delta comprised 678 females and 477 males.

The swearing-in ceremony its founding fathers, the scheme has been able to cope with contemporary challenges,” he said.

The governor called on the corps members to ensure participation in all activities of the orientation as the activities were geared towards moulding them for future challenges.

He further appealed to them to be patriotic, have good conduct and obey camp rules and regulations.

Okowa pledged the state government’s commitment to the welfare of corp members in the state and urged them to be good ambassadors of the nation.

Highlight of the ceremony included the administration of oath of allegiance on the new corps members by the State Chief Judge, Justice Theresa Diai who was represented by Justice Timi Excel.

Meanwhile, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has assured Corps members posted to Borno State that the security situation in the state has improved greatly.

The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Alhaji Muhammad Adamu-Jiya disclosed this during the induction of 1,341 Batch ‘A’, Stream II corps members, on Friday in Katsina.

The corps members posted to Borno usually camp in Katsina since the Boko Haram crisis in the state.

According to him, the corps members should not panic as peace has returned to Borno.

The coordinator said because of the improvement of security, the NYSC camp in Borno will soon be reopened.

He cautioned the corps members against involvement in cultism, drug abuse, cyber-crime and other negative tendencies during the service year.

“There is the need for the corps members to use the social media wisely and desist from drug abuse and other crimes for a successful service year.

“I also urge you to desist from taking laws into your hands, and should report any issue to the appropriate authorities for further action.”

Adamu-Jiya also appealed to them to exhibit maturity in their dealings and be good ambassadors of their families, communities, institutions and the NYSC.

The coordinator assured the corps members of necessary security and welfare throughout their stay at the camp and during the service year.

He commended Borno and Katsina states for their relentless support to the NYSC scheme.

The corps members were administered the Oath of Allegiance by Justice Abbas Bawale. (NAN)
