The Kogi State Internal Revenue Service says it is fully committed and determined to beat the targeted 100 per cent of the projected revenue captured in the 2023 budget.
Mr Sule Enehe, the Board Chairman, made this known at a news conference in Lokoja on Monday.
Governor Yahaya Bello had presented an estimated budget of N172.1billion for the 2023 fiscal year in which he set revenue target for the board. .
He said the service had put all machineries in place, blocked all leakages and lopholes causing losses in the state Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), assuring that the target would be met and surpassed.
According to him, KGIRS will capture more taxable entities into the tax net to enhance revenue generation as many businesses are yet to be captured, thereby leading to loss of revenue.
The chairman added that the service had motivated its staff with improved salary and welfare packages and they were fully committed to optimal performance.
He added that regular promotion and other welfare packages for staff would serve as a moyivational boost for improved revenue generation.
He assured that under his leadership, the service would surpass the state’s internally generated revenue of the previous year and exceed the 2023 target.
He reiterated that the state did not have issues of multiple taxations, describing such notion by the people as misinformation.
He assured that the agency was working to checkmate the activities of illegal revenue collectors, leading to what many misconstrued as double taxations.
He restated his commitment and resolute to reposition the service towards better service delivery.
”We are not where we need to be. We are, however, overhauling our area offices and re-energizing them towards improved service.
He added that the service was engaging on sensitisation of the public to the need to be aware of legal taxes and revenue expected to be paid in the state.
He warned illegal tax collectors in the state, who were always dragging the name of the service into the mud, to desist or face the consequences of their actions.(NAN)
