A group of Sports stakeholders in Kano State have called for synergy between Kano Pillars FC and Barau FC as they prepare to represent the state in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The call was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting of sports and football stakeholders held at the Kano State Sports Commission on Friday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting had in attendance representatives of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kano chapter, the State Sports Commission, Kano State Football Association, Kano Pillars FC and Barau FC.
The communique urged the supporters of both clubs to embrace mutual respect and understanding in order to sustain Kano’s position as the hub of football in Northern Nigeria.
It also stressed the need for stakeholders to collaborate in promoting inclusiveness and development of football in line with FIFA, CAF, NFF and FA regulations to avoid any setbacks for the state’s clubs.
The resolution further emphasized the importance of increased funding and sponsorship, stating that such support could lead to the construction of a 100,000-capacity modern stadium in the state.
The stakeholders commended the leadership of both Kano Pillars and Barau FC for reaffirming their commitment to fairness, anti-drug campaigns, and promoting discipline among players and fans.
They also highlighted the importance of showcasing the state’s footballing talent to attract corporate sponsors and donors, while ensuring healthy rivalry between the two clubs.
The communiqué added that the stakeholders resolved to reconvene at a later date to review progress on the resolutions reached.
The meeting expressed gratitude to SWAN Kano chapter for facilitating the event and to all participants for their active engagement.(NAN)
