NGO lauds NAPTIP’s rescue operation of 24 trafficked victims

The Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL) Nigeria, a Non-Governmental Organisation, has lauded the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for rescuing 24 trafficked victims.

This is contained in a statement signed by NACTAL National President, Mr Abdulganiyu Abubakar, on Thursday in Sokoto following the successful anti-trafficking operation.

“The successful rescue of 24 human trafficking victims and arrest of five suspected trafficking agents in Abuja is a commendable achievement worthy of public recognition.

“NACTAL wishes to applaud NAPTIP’s professionalism and effectiveness in the operation that ensured freedom for 24 victims and led to the arrest of five suspected traffickers,” he said.

He described human trafficking as a grave human rights violation, emphasising that trafficking, abuse, and exploitation were serious crimes against humanity that stripped victims of dignity and fundamental rights.

While commending NAPTIP, Abubakar urged the agency to expedite prosecution, especially in the case of Bashariya, allegedly trafficked, abused, and exploited in Sokoto and other related cases.

“NACTAL pledges continued collaboration and support to NAPTIP in its interventions and responses aimed at preventing trafficking and protecting victims of these heinous crimes.

“NACTAL reaffirms its commitment to working with government agencies, civil society, regional partners, and international stakeholders to strengthen mechanisms for prevention, protection, and prosecution,” the National President added.

According to Abubakar, NACTAL also serves as the regional representative of the West African Coalition Against Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling (WACTIPS), operating actively within Nigeria. (NAN)
