North East Commission distributes foodstuff to vulnerable groups

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed food and other items to 106 vulnerable groups in Borno.
Speaking at the ceremony on Tuesday in Maiduguri, Mr Mohammed Alkali, the Managing-Director, NERC, said that the gesture was to cushion effects of the hardship in the country on the people.
Alkali, represented by the Borno Coordinator, NEDC, Malam Mohammed Umar, said that the target was to reach out to vulnerable groups including orphans, widows, Persons with Disabilities and indigent students of tertiary institutions.
He said that the gesture was in line with the commission’s mandate to ameliorate the hardship caused the by Boko Haram insurgency in the society.
He said that about 567 vulnerable households had benefited from the latest support of the commission to the people.
Alkali urged vulnerable persons to always avail themselves to opportunities to empower them by the commission.
In his remarks, the Borno Chairman of Joint Association of Persons with Disabilities, Malam Mohammed Abubakar, lauded the commission for the support which was timely.
“This support coming at this critical time of inflation coupled with the Ramadan period is timely.
“We remain grateful to NEDC for the sustained support of vulnerable groups and urged other organisations to emulate it in complementing government interventions at this critical moment,” Abubakar said. (NAN)
