14 political parties sign peace accord in Kwara

A total of 14 political parties have signed a peace accord ahead of the forthcoming 2023 general elections in Kwara.

Three out of the 17 political parties, African Action Congress (AAC), Labour Party (LP) and People’s Redemption Party (PRP) who did not field candidates were absent

The signing of the Peace Accord took place at the state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ilorin, and was witnessed by representatives of security agencies, International and local election observers, as well as the media.

In his address of welcome, INEC Resident Electoral Commission (REC), Mallam Garba Attahiru-Madami described the willingness of the political parties to voluntary sign the peace accord as a good thing .

He urged the political parties to abide by the content of the document.

Attahiru-Madami assured all stakeholders of INEC’s readiness to deliver the best election in the state and the country in general.

The REC warned politicians against multiple voting and using under age children to vote during elections.

In his remark, the Commissioner of Police Kwara Command, Mr Paul Odama, said the security agencies will ensure adequate security before, during and after the elections.

In his speech on behalf of all the political parties,the Kwara state Deputy Chairman, Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Mr Shina Ajisafe said all the political parties will ensure strict adherence to the peace accord.

Political parties that signed the peace accord were APC, PDP, SDP, Accord party, AA, ADC, APGA, APL, NNPP, and NRM. PRP, YPP, ZLP and APP.
