A Jos, Plateau State Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 25-year-old welder, Basir Mohammed to one year in prison for selling and consuming hemp.
The Magistrate, Mr Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Bokkos in her judgment, however, gave the convict an option to either pay a N100, 000 fine or spend one year in prison.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported by police operatives on patrol at “A” Division on Jan.21, who caught and brought him to the station.
Gokwat said the convict was found with drugs suspected to be Indian hemp.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.(NAN)
