University disclaims social media handles with VC’s name

The management of the Federal University, Dutsinma (FUDMA), in Katsina State, has disclaimed some social media handles with its Vice Chancellor’s name, Prof. Armaya’u Hamisu-Bichi.

The spokesperson of the University, Malam Habib Umar-Amin, who disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday in Katsina, said they are fake.

According to him, “The attention of FUDMA management has been drawn to several fake, malicious and slanderous Facebook accounts and other social media pages.

“They were purportedly created by some unscrupulous elements in the name of the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University, Prof. Armaya’u Hamisu-Bichi.

“The social media pages and handles were created with the intent to defraud and malign unsuspecting members of the public.

“Accordingly, this is to notify the general public, especially the online community, that the VC did not authorise anyone to set up, operate or make any post on such purportedly created pages and handles on his behalf.”

Umar-Amin further said that already, investigations are ongoing by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and other security agencies to unravel those behind such pages and handles.

He also appreciates efforts of the security agencies on the ongoing investigations, calling on the general public, especially the online community, to be cautious and disregard such Facebook and social media pages and handles.

According to Umar-Amin, anyone who interacts with them is doing so at his or her own peril. (NAN)
