Trader docked for attempting to steal generator from mosque

A 30-year-old trader, Abubakar Abdullahi, was on Wednesday docked in a Karu Upper Area Court, sitting in Abuja for allegedly attempting to steal a generator set from a mosque.

Abdullahi, whose address was not released, is charged with criminal trespass, attempt to commit an offence of theft and belonging to gang of thieves.

He, however denied committing the offence.

The prosection counsel, Ayotunde Adeyanju told the court that the complainant, Dan Wase of Abattoir, Karu, Abuja reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on March 3.

He said the defendant entered into the mosque located in Old Chief Palace, Karu, pretending to observe his prayers.

He said the defendant brought out a chisel and attempted to break the mosque store with intent to steal a generator.

Adeyanju also alleged that the defendant belonged to a gang of thieves.

The offence, the prosecutor said,  contraneved sections 348, 95 and 306 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Isa Adamu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of 300,000 and one surety in like sum.

Adamu adjourned the case until May 29 for hearing. (NAN)
