Tinubu: My decision in national interest, preserve future generations

President Bola Tinubu has defended his decision to remove fuel subsidy adding that he has no regrets about that policy which was meant to preserve Nigeria’s future and that of our future generations.

Speaking during his first media chat since assuming office President Tinubu said that the decision was made to preserve Nigeria’s future and that of future generations.

He explained that the subsidy removal was necessary, as it allowed for the free market to dictate prices and encouraged competition in the sector.

However, critics argue that the removal has led to significant increases in fuel prices, transportation costs, and food prices, causing widespread hardship among Nigerians.

Some have also questioned Tinubu’s stance, given his past opposition to fuel subsidy removal during the Goodluck Jonathan administration in 2012. Others have criticized the government’s handling of the subsidy removal, arguing that it has disproportionately affected the poor and vulnerable populations.

Inspire of criticisms from opposition, Tinubu said he remains resolute in his decision, stating that he would not have done things differently.

The fuel subsidy removal has been a contentious issue in Nigeria, with many calling for a more nuanced approach to addressing the country’s economic challenges.
