Stock market transacts 4.68bn shares worth N38.86bn

The stock market traded 4.683 million shares valued at N38.864 billion in 34,852 transactions on Tuesday.

This is compared with 1.47 billion shares worth N35.5 billion that was traded across 47,892 deals earlier on Monday.

This showed a 219 per cent growth in volume, nine per cent increase in value, and 27 per cent decline in deals.

Cornerstone Insurance recorded the highest volume and value with 3.67 billion shares traded at N18.53 billion.

This translated to 78.36 per cent and 47.69 per cent of total volume and value traded for the day.

Meanwhile, the equities market continued on its positive performance as N411 billion was added to investors portfolio.

Market capitalisation rose by N411 billion or 0.42 per cent, closing at N98.843 trillion from N98.432 trillion on Monday.

Also, the All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 645.19 points or 0.42 per cent, ending at 155,034.72 from 154,389.53.

As a result,  the year-to-date (YTD) return rose to 50.63 per cent.

The market breadth also closed positive with 47 gainers and 24 losers.

Julius Berger, Honeywell Flour and Guinness Nigeria led the gainers’ chart by 10 per cent each, finishing at N152.90, N21.45 and N1.32 per share respectively.

Similarly, Austinlaz rose by 9.94 per cent, settling at N3.87 while Multiverse Mining grew by 9.88 per cent, closing at N13.35 per share.

On the other hand, Union Dicon Salt and Livingtrust Mortgage Bank led the losers’ chart by 10 per cent each, ending the session at N6.30 and N3.42 per share.

First Holding Company fell by 9.94 per cent, settling at N44.40, Veritas Kapital Assurance dipped by 7.47 per cent, closing at N1.61 and Mutual Benefits Assurance dropped by 7.46 per cent, finishing at N3.10 per share. (NAN)
