The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Ahmed Ammani, has ordered the deployment of all operational and intelligence officers of the police to secure the state during the Easter festivities.
Ammani also warned police operatives to stick to the Nigeria Police Force extant rules of engagement and guard against acts of unprofessionalism this season.
In a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on Friday in Enugu the commissioner reassured residents and visitors to the state of adequate security and safety during and beyond the period of the celebration.
According to him, the police command congratulates the people of the state, particularly the Christian faithful, as they join others in the country and beyond to mark this year’s Easter celebrations of the death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ.
“I have directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Heads Tactical/Operational Units of the Command to deploy all operational and intelligence assets at their disposal, to effectively police their areas of responsibilities and ensure smooth celebrations during and after Easter.
“I have also warned commanders and operational supervisors to ensure that personnel under them stick to the Nigeria Police Force extant rules of engagement and guard against acts of unprofessionalism as they will be held vicariously liable for any lapse(s).
“I entreat all and sundry to celebrate responsibly and peacefully as well as call on Christians to use the period to pray for the peace and progress of Enugu State and Nigeria,” he said.
The commissioner urged residents to reawaken and genuinely express the true nature of Jesus Christ, which is exemplified in his love and selflessness.
He also called on residents to remain supportive, law-abiding and vigilant, while promptly reporting acts of crime and criminality to the nearest police station.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr Paul Odama, has assured the people of the state of adequate security before, during, and after the Easter celebrations.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ajayi Okasanmi the commissioner of Police said all the materials and human resources available to the command had been deployed to ensure Christians and Muslims alike enjoyed the holidays with peace and equanimity.
He disclosed that there was aggressive foot and motorised patrol, devoid of undue pressure on innocent citizens, particularly the youth and the students in the state.
CP Odama therefore advised youths to be law-abiding and avoid every circumstance that could cause disharmony between them and the law enforcement agencies on duty during the period.
He added that the police had been warned to desist from checking the telephones of citizens and unnecessary pursuit of alleged Yahoo boys in the state.
He congratulated the Christian faithful on the successful completion of Lent, which signified the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The Police boss equally advised the citizens to celebrate in moderation and be conscious of happenings around them.

Also, Kano State Police Command has assured residents of the state of their safety before, during and after the Easter period.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Manman Dauda, stated this in Kano on Thursday Usman said that enough manpower would be deployed across the 44 local government areas of the state throughout the celebration.
“We have mapped out strategies that will ensure that the entire state is captured with our personnel to enable residents observe the festivities in peaceful atmosphere.
“Manpower and logistics for patrol and surveillance have been deployed to give Christians and even other people of different faith a sense of true safety during the period,” he said.
He said that the command was working in conjunction with other security agencies to ensure a hitch-free celebration.
“I will assure all residents that their safety is guaranteed. Any suspicious movement or characters should be reported quickly for proactive measures.
”I wish everybody a happy Easter celebration,” the commissioner said.
Similarly, Mr Adamu Salihu, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state, said that already 1,200 personnel of the corps had been deployed to provide security before, during and after the Easter festivities in the state.
Salihu said that security measures had been put in place to achieve peaceful celebration without threat to lives and property.
He said the personnel were deployed to Churches, recreation centres and other public buildings in and outside the metropolis.
He therefore urged the Christian faithful to use the Easter period to pray for peaceful transition in the country.
“Nigerians should pray for security personnel deployed in the ongoing fight against kidnapping, banditry and any form of insecurity,” he said.
The commandant however called on residents to volunteer information that would lead to arrest and prosecution of criminals in the state. (NAN)
