The Councillor representing Ward 8 Ona-Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mrs Romoke Ojo, on Wednesday, made cash donations to at least 80 less privileged persons, plus PDP members in the community.
Ojo gave out the cash as economic empowerment to the beneficiaries during a community lecture, entitled “Re-awakening hope, security of women and girl child in Ona-Ara”.
In a speech, she said that the donation was borne out of the need to help the under-privileged and reduce insecurity in the community in particular, and state in general.
She linked the cause of insecurity to unemployment and the lack of finance to set up little businesses.
“Insecurity is ravaging the country and there is the need to be security conscious.
“These people are my people, they voted for me and that is why I am in this position, without them I might not be here.
“I need to assist them with the little I have for them to earn a living in order for us to live peacefully and for the progress and development of this community,” Ojo said.
She also said that the empowerment would in one way or the other reduce insecurity and unemployment in the community.
She called on the country’s youths to shun violence, be law abiding and not to be in a haste to get rich in life.
In a lecture, a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel, Iluka Division, DSC Mercy Olaniyan, called on parents to constantly monitor their children and ensure they exhibit good character for the future of the country.
Olaniyan said that the security of lives and property was the responsibility of all and sundry.
She called on parents to inculcate good morals and fear of God in their children so that they could be better citizens.
Also in a remark, the PDP Chairman of Ajia Ward 8, Alhaji Moshood Olore, commended Ojo for the donation and urged others in positions of authority to emulate her kind gesture.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Sadiat Rauf, appreciated the donor and pledged that they would make judicious use of the fund. NAN
