The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has urged employers to accord priority to security and welfare of corps members to enhance productivity.
The NYSC Coordinator in Jigawa State, Hajiya Aishatu Adamu made the call at the inauguration of the 2022 Corps Employers’ Workshop, on Wednesday in Dutse.
The theme of the workshop is “Achieving Improved Productivity of Corps Members Through Enhance Welfare and Security During the Service Year”.
The exercise was designed to expose schools principals and employers to the security, safety and welfare needs of the corps members.
Adamu said the exercise is also expected to inspire participants to explore better ways of solving problems, adding that, “when challenges are speedily tackled, more productivity is assured”.
She said the scheme accorded premium to security and comfort of the corps members, hence the need for the employers to equally pay particular attention to those posted to them.
The gesture, she said, would increase productivity among the corps members at their respective places of primary assignment.
According to Adamu, the exercise will fashion out strategies towards building relationships among corps members, motivate, mentor them to relate harmoniously with their employers.
She urged the participants to identify challenges in thier respective workplaces, profer solutions and articulate pragmatic methods of handling corps members’ welfare and security for greater productivity.
The coordinator lauded the state government for creating enabling environment for the scheme to operate and the employers for their support to the corps members.
The Chairman, NYSC Governing Board in the state, Bala Ibrahim said the exercise would improve corps member – employer relations.
He said the state government had set up coppers’ lodge across the 27 local government areas towards improving their welfare. (NAN)
