City Football Club (CFC) of Abuja on Friday defeated Visting Malumfashi FC of Kastina 1-0 at the ongoing 2023/2024 Nigeria National league (NNL).
The group D match was played at the Area 10 old parade ground Football pitch in Abuja.
City FC played five matches , won one, drew one and lost three and seventh on the log with four points.
While Malumfashi FC played five matches and lost all and eighth on the log.
The game’s only goal was scored by Daniel Gotom in the sixth minute of the encounter with an assist by Oscar Okoh.
In spite of the visitors aggressive play, they could not as equalise as the hosts held on tight at the rear.
Speaking after the match, Nnamdi Oriaku, the captain of City FC said that he was happy with the scoreline.
“ We have a good performance in the second half of the game but the defence of Malumfashi FC was tigh, we could not penetrate to add to our goal.
“ Malumfashi FC team are not a bad side, they came all out for us at the end of the game ,we were able to secure the maximum three points at home,” he said.
Our next match is against Jigawa Golden stars FC in January 2024.
“ The league is a marathon and teams have to fight for points every time out. So, we will in our next game fight to have the maximum points,” he said.
“ We will continue to improve as the league progresses because we have more matches ahead .
“ We want our fans and supporters to continue to believe in us and we are promising that before the league ends we will definitely be at the top,” he said.
In their next encounter, City FC will square up with Jigawa Golden Stars FC on January 6, 2024. While Malumfashi FC will take on Sokoto United FC on January 6, 2024.
