Niger Rep: Tinubu sends ECOWAS delegation to dialogue

ECOWAS Chairman, President Bola Tinubu has deployed official delegation, led by President Patrice Talon of Benin Republic, to mediate the ongoing Military standoff in Niger Republic.

The decision was announced following a meeting between President Tinubu and his Beninese counterpart at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

President Talon’s visit marks the second time within nine days at the Aso Rock Villa.

Last week he was there with other colleague-presidents, Mohamed Bazoum of Niger and Umaro Sissoco Embalo of Guinea-Bissau, for a meeting. During that meeting, the leaders agreed to re-engage with leaders in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea to expedite democratic transitions in these countries, all of which have recently experienced military coups.

Prior to President Talon’s visit today, President Tinubu had issued a strong warning to the presidential guards of Niger Republic, emphasizing that ECOWAS will not tolerate any attempts to undermine constitutional order in member states.
