NEMA delivers palliatives to victims of herdsmen attack

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed palliatives to 80 survivours of suspected herdsmen attack in Nkalaha community of Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that on Feb. 2, some suspected herdsmen have attacked the community which resulted in loss of lives and property.

Distributing the items on Wednesday, NEMA’s Director-General, Mrs Zubaida Umar, represented by a Director in the Agency, Mr Shartel Chukwu, commended the State Government for its timely intervention during the attack and support to survivours.

She listed the items to be distributed to include; 300 bags of 25kg rice, 300 cartons of spaghetti, 300 cartons of vegetable oil, 15 cartons of seasoning, 15 cartons of tomato paste, and 15 bags of salt.

Umar advised local government authorities and community leaders to address issues of insecurity by promoting dialogue and tolerance.

The DG enjoined the communities to establish more peace keeping associations to support government initiative on peace and conflict resolution.

In his remarks, Gov. Francis Nwifuru, represented by Mr Ikechukwu Alobo, Permanent Secretary, Government House,  assured people that the state government would not relent in providing security of lives and property in the  state.

While appreciating NEMA for the palliatives, the governor encouraged people to embrace dialogue as the best solution to any unresolved issue.

Also speaking, the Council Chairperson of the local government, Mrs Peace Agwu, reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence among the people.

She commended NEMA and Gov. Francis Nwifuru for improving the livelihood of the people, especially in resolving communal clashes.

“My local government will soon launch a rehabilitation programme on agriculture and youth empowerment with a view to showing that the nation stands with Nkalaha in both mourning and rebuilding,” Agwu revealed. (NAN)
