KWHA members re-elect Danladi-Salihu as Speaker

Mr Yakubu Danladi-Salihu has been re-elected as the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly for the 10th Assembly.

This followed a motion for his nomination moved by Hon. Halidu Danbaba representing Kaiama/Wajibe and seconded by Hon. Arinola Lawal representing Ilorin East during Tuesday’s inauguration plenary.

The 10th Legislature of Kwara House of Assembly was inaugurated following issuance of Proclamation by Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in compliance with Section 105, Subsection 3 of the 1999 Constitution as amended

The 38 years old Danladi-Salihu was the Speaker of the 9th Assembly and was unanimously reelected by the House.

Also, Hon. Ojo Olayiwola Oyebode representing Oke-Ogun Constituency was elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker.

Oyebode was nominated by Razaq Owolabi representing Share/Oke-Ode constituency while Hon Shaba Isa Gideon representing Edu constituency seconded.

Danladi-Salihu and Oyebode were therefore sworn in by the Clerk of the House, Hajia Halimah Kperogi at the Hallowed Chamber of the House.

Other Principal Officers of House are House Leader Oba Abdulkadir Magaji of Ilorin Central Constituency while Medinah Abdulrahman, Lanwa Ejidongari Constituency
emerged as Deputy House Leader.

Also Abdulganiyu Abolarin-Gabriel of Ekiti Constituency emerged as Chief Whip while Mariam Yusuf Aladi of Ilorin South Constituency clinched the position of Deputy Whip of the House.

Out of the 24 members, only one was elected under the platform of PDP member, while five of them are women.

Eight of the members sworn in were re-elected, while 16 were new members.

Meanwhile, Gov AbdulRazaq has congratulated members of the Kwara State House of Assembly on their inauguration into the 10th parliament.

A statement by his Chief Press Secretary Rafiu Ajakaye, said the Governor specifically commended the House members for the smooth election of a new leadership under the Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, who was returned to his seat unopposed.

“This seamless transition, including the re-election of the Speaker and emergence of Hon. Emmanuel Ojo Oyebode as the Deputy Speaker, speaks to the maturity of the lawmakers and their commitment to stability, collective prosperity, and growth of our state.

“The Governor urges the lawmakers to continue to prioritise public good and unity of our people in the discharge of their legislative responsibilities.

“He prays to God to guide the lawmakers as they assume the duties of making laws for the good governance of Kwara State,” Ajakaye said.
