Kogi LG chairmen, councillors quit as tenure ends

The 21 Local Government Chairmen and 239 councillors in Kogi State have vacated their offices following the expiration of their three year tenure as elected council officials.

Their tenure of office expired on Thursday, having been sworn in on December 15, 2020 by Governor Yahaya Bello.

The state Commissioner for Local Government And Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Ozigi Deedat, confirmed the expiration of their tenures and vacation from offices in a statement in Lokoja on Friday.

The commissioner, however, remained silent on date for a fresh election or possibility of appointing caretaker committees for the LGAs.

Deedat, however, congratulated the outgone executive chairmen and councillors for successfully completing their tenures.

‘On behalf of the management and Staff of the Ministry For Local Government And Chieftaincy Affairs, I wish to congratulate you all for successfully completing your tenure.

“I celebrate you all, as I wish you the best in your future endeavours, ” he said. NAN
