Ferscoat school recently hosted parents of its learners in the first meeting this new term and used the platform to celebrate the impressive performance of its learners in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) for admissions into universities.
The Director of Studies (DOS), Pastor Felix Opata while addressing the Parents Teachers Forum (PTF) unveiled the details of the scores recorded by the learners in the examinations which was adjudged an improvement and best performance by the learners in the school’s history of participation in the UTME.
According to him, the school’s performance is a measure of the quality of preparations of its learners to excel in JAMB and other external examinations.
The results of the top 21 students read to the parents indicate that the highest score was 315 for two learners while the lowest score was 279.
The DOS also informed parents of arrangements towards excursion during the midterm break to three locations.
The trip to Europe will feature France and Germany while the trip along the West Coast will take interested participants to Accra, Cape coast and Tema in Ghana and another local trip to the South West Nigeria will take them to Ikogosi spring water resort, Ekiti State, University of Ibadan Zoological Garden; Ooni of Ife’s palace; National Museum, Ile-Ife, Osun-Oshogbo Groove, Erin Ijesha waterfalls and Obafemi Awolowo University’s Science and Technology museum, in Osun State.
The DOS also used the opportunity to remind parents and guardians of the need for prompt payment of school fees and other commitment they have made for the education of their children in order to help the school to grow.
According to him; “We want to appreciate all our parents that pay their school fees in full and promptly too. You are indeed helping the school to grow. We still have some parents who have formed the habit of not paying school fees promptly and this is gradually becoming a big challenge and threat to the smooth running of our school.
“Fees not paid timely will only lead to more debt on the part of the school. Parents are to pay for school fees on or before resumption but we always have about 40% of fees not paid by the end of week 9 most times. There is definitely no way we can successfully run the school. No complete fee paid no exam for any learner.
“No concessions will be given as from 1st term next session. It is going to be strictly pay before entry. This session, the school has lost over four million naira to parents who promised, failed and removed their ward(s) from the school after writing the first and second term exams. Learners in terminal classes are to pay 2nd and 3rd term fees in the 2nd term.
The Principal, Mr. Fred Opata in his address informed the parents of the strategies in place to ensure adequate preparation for learners in internal and external examination and particularly for those in the terminal classes in order to sustain the school’s heritage of academic excellence for their learners.
He also informed the parents of the roles expected of them in keeping the leaners adequately prepared while at home during and before the examinations.
The parents were also informed of the arrangement to launch the book on Ferscoat @ 30. The book was presented at the anniversary celebration but wasn’t ready for distribution.
The DOS said that by September 2023, all leaners will be given a copy of the book at the cost of N3000 only. All outgoing learners in Primary six, JSS3 and SSS3 will get copies in July.
