The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Ido-Ekiti chapter, has appealed to Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State to empower farmers with tractors and other essential agricultural equipment to boost food production.
The former Chairman of the Association, Mr Oluropo Dada who made the appeal on Wednesday in Ido-Ekiti, Ido-Osi Local Government Area of the state commended Oyebanji for given priority to the development of agriculture and welfare of farmers in all the local governments.
He said that the era of herders invading and destroying farmlands were over with the establishment of anti-grazing enforcement officers.
He appealed to the governor to fulfill his promises to the farmers by procuring tractors for them to ease the cultivation of farms.
“I want to commend our amiable governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji for establishing anti-grazing enforcement officers.
“We want the state government to assist us to secure our farms from further invasion by suspected herdsmen.
“I want to also appeal to our Local Government Chairman, Mr Bamidele Omoleye, to help us facilitate the tractors from the state government,” he said
Dada appealed to both state and local governments to rehabilitate roads leading to the farms to enhance smooth transportation of produce.
He said most of the produce always spoil in the farms due to bad road. (NAN)
