Former Minister in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, Sadiya Umar Farouq has denied all the allegations levelled against her office by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) saying that she had no link to any James Okwete, a contractor linked to her.
In her statement of defence, Umar Farouq said: “There have been a number of reports linking me to a purported investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into the activities of one James Okwete, someone completely unknown to me. James Okwete neither worked for, nor represented me in any way whatsoever.
The linkages and associations to my person are spurious. While I resist the urge to engage in any media trial whatsoever, I have however contacted my Legal Team to explore possible options to seek redress on the malicious attack on my person.
I remain proud to have served my country as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with every sense of responsibility and would defend my actions, stewardship and programmes during my tenure whenever I am called upon to do so.
The sooner we understand that for as long as dishonesty remains the norm in our polity the sooner we’ll realize our country is forever doomed All preceding govts have been better than the succeeding ones since we started in May 1999.
Very few actors in preceding govts have gone unscathed. Most have been accused of corrupt practices. Many have proved to be crooks. A lot more confirmed they were indeed thieves, rogues and downright criminals How can a country succeed with crooked leaders in any which way?
How can we then hope to have a better country as we trudge forward forever in difficulty?!
