Army’s 2 Div launches OPFF, kills scores of terrorists, crushes hideouts

…….in Kwara, rescue abducted victims

The Nigerian Army’s 2 Division has launched Operation IGBO DANU (Operation Forest Flush), recording significant successes against terrorist elements operating within Kwara State.

Troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade, with massive support from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), sustained coordinated offensive operations across the Joint Operations Area (JOA) between 23 and 29 January 2026, leading to the neutralisation, arrest and dislodgement of terrorists from several enclaves.

In a statement signed by Captain Maureen Ogbuka for the Acting Deputy Director, 2 Division Army Public Relations and Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the operations were conducted under the leadership of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Chinedu Nnebife, alongside the Commander 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Nicholas Rume.

According to the statement, Troops, working in collaboration with ONSA, conducted aggressive fighting patrols across multiple bandits’ enclaves.

During the engagements, several terrorists were neutralised, while others fled into the forests with suspected gunshot wounds. Their camps and hideouts were completely destroyed, effectively dislodging them from the areas.

Troops also cleared Garin Dandi, a known bandits’ enclave in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, resulting in the destruction of logistics bases and supply networks used by the criminal elements.

Further operations saw troops storm remote camps previously inaccessible to security forces, where several abandoned camps and logistics enablers were destroyed, significantly degrading the terrorists’ sustainment and operational capability.

Despite operating in difficult and restrictive terrain, troops maintained an aggressive posture throughout the forested areas, denying the bandits freedom of movement. Blocking positions were effectively established, leading to the interception and arrest of fleeing suspects. The operations also resulted in the rescue of several kidnap victims from different camps across the state.

Observations from the operations revealed that terrorists receive support from collaborators within nearby communities, who provide intelligence on troop movements, enabling early withdrawal ahead of military offensives.

The successes recorded, the statement noted, underscore the resolve and operational effectiveness of 2 Division Nigerian Army in degrading terrorist networks and restoring security across Kwara State.

The GOC, 2 Division Nigerian Army, has called on members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information on terrorists and their collaborators to support ongoing operations. He assured that Operation IGBO DANU remains ongoing and will decisively deal with all terrorist elements operating within Kwara State.
