A Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, has sentenced a scavenger, Aliyu Abdullahi to 12 months imprisonment, for house breaking and stealing.
Abdullahi, 23, of Lugbe Zone 5, Abuja, who pleaded guilty to the crime, begged for leniency.
The Judge, Mr Aliyu Kagarko, however, gave the convict an option of a fine of N30,000 and warned him to desist from committing crime in the future.
The prosecution counsel, Mr Olisaemeka Okeke, told the court that the complainant, Mr Uchenna Okafor of Lugbe Zone 6, Airport Road, Abuja, arrested the convict.
Okeke said the complainant arrested and brought the convict to Trademore Police Station on Feb. 29 at about 4:30 p.m.
The prosecutor told the court that on the same date at about 3: p.m., the convict smartly broke into the complainant’s house through the window without his consent.
He said the convict stole two 6kg gas cylinders valued N64, 600 from the complainant’s house.
The prosecutor said that the complainant saw him when he was about to escape, and he raised an alarm while the people around chased and caught the convict.
He said that during police investigation, the convict confessed to the crime.
Okeke said that the offence contravene sections 353 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
