Police arraign auto mechanic accused of stealing customer’s car

The police on Thursday arraigned a 32-year-old mechanic, Musa Chibi, who  allegedly stole his customer’s car.

The defendant is standing trial for  conspiracy,  breach of trust and theft.

He, however,  pleaded not guilty before a Grade 1 Area Court, Karu , Abuja.

The prosector, Mr Ayotunde Adeyanju, told the court that the complainant (victim) reported the case at the Karu Police Station on January 9.

“The complainant said that his Toyota Camry valued at one million Naira, developed a fault along VIO-Kugbo Expressway, Abuja, and he called the defendant to put the car in order.

“The defendant couldn’t fix it but assured the complainant that he would watch over the car till the next day to ensure that it is secure.

“He collected N3,000.

“However, the complainant returned the next day and discovered that the defendant stole the said car,” Adeyanju said.

He added that during police investigation, the defendant could not defend himself or deny the allegation.

The alleged  offences are contrary to Sections 312 and 288 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Mr Aliyu Alhassan, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 and two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case until March 4 for hearing. NAN
