Court remands man over stealing, assault

A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, has ordered the remand of a 25-year old man, Matthew Bamgbose  for assault and stealing.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr T.A Popoola, ordered that the defendant should be remanded in Awhajigoh Correctional Centre, Badagry, for assaulting  Yahaya Sanu, the complainant by stabbing him after breaking into his house.

The Chief Magistrate adjourned the case until January 31, for mention.

The prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Adeosun told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec.31, 2023, at about 11.00.p.m, at Baale’s Str., Opeyemi Ibereko, Badagry, Lagos.

The prosecutor said that the defendant unlawfully damaged one net door with a knife to gain access into the house of Sanu, the complainant.

“The defendant stole property valued at N273, 000 from the house of the complainant.

“Bamgbose unlawfully assaulted the complainant by stabbing him with a kitchen knife on his left arm, and also hit him with an iron rod on his right ear side causing him bodily harm.

“The offences contravened the Sections 339, 287 and 245 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State (2015),” he said.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. (NAN)
