Women Radio 91.7FM, in collaboration with Centre for Journalism, Innovation and Development (CJID), is set to organise the inaugural Artificial Intelligence (AI) Radio Summit scheduled for 16 November, 2024 in Lagos State.
The event, titled: “Smart Radio: Leveraging AI for Next-Gen Broadcasting,” is expected to bring together thought leaders from the AI technology and broadcast sectors to explore how Artificial Intelligence is transforming radio broadcasting in Nigeria.
A statement made available by Women Radio’s Communication Officer, Maria Oladokun, on Friday in Abuja said: “The digital transformation of broadcasting has undoubtedly reformed the media landscape, offering new opportunities but also bringing significant challenges.
“These challenges are particularly pronounced for broadcasters who have been part of the industry for decades, where professionalism and training must evolve to meet the demands of the digital age.
“In Nigeria, where political and economic complexities intersect with issues of pluralism, addressing these challenges is crucial for the future of radio,” the statement said.
The General Manager, Women Radio 91.7FM, Oghenevwairhe Ofigo, said the AI Radio Summit Nigeria 2024 will redefine how the Nigerian broadcasting industry leverages AI for smarter and efficient communication.
“The summit will foster discussions and collaboration in the development of AI into content creation and servicing the broadcast audience through panel discussions, workshops and exhibitions that will equip broadcasters with the tools and knowledge to harness AI for the future of radio.”
Ofigo further said it will showcase the possibilities and creative innovations that exist for radio stations to enhance their operations and engage more deeply with their audiences.
“At Women Radio 91.7fm, we have embraced the transformative power of AI making artificial intelligence a vital part of programming and operations and we are eager to share our experiences and learn from others.”
The Director of Programmes at the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), Akintunde Babatunde, said radio broadcasting has always played a pivotal role in shaping public understanding and reactions to information and entertainment.
“However, with the advent of digital technology, the game has changed. The transition to digital broadcasting offers immense opportunities, but it also calls for rethinking how broadcasters are trained to adapt to the social and technological challenges of today.
“AI brings new dimensions to this evolution, and it is vital to rethink how radio broadcasting is done in this new era.”
Babatunde added that the summit, hosted by Women Radio 91.7FM and CJID is a continuation of CJID’s support for media innovation in Africa.
“Having built the first radio AI tool for debunking misinformation in audio format, this summit aims to show radio broadcasters how to stay ahead of the digital transformation this age has brought,”
The AI Radio Summit Nigeria 2024 is an initiative of Women Radio 91.7FM in collaboration with CJID and supported by Voice Women Empowerment Foundation.
