Police Command in Benue State has confirmed that two persons have been killed in a crisis between Mbasombo and Mbaivur communities in Gwer Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, SP Sewuese Anene said in a statement issued in Makurdi that the renewed crisis began on February 28.
“We got information that some mischievous persons burnt down the house of deceased DSP Emmanuel Agber at Ikpayongo.
“A reaction from some members of the community led to destruction of some more houses,’’ Anene stated.
He added that series of meetings had been held in the past two years and peaceful resolutions made to ensure that peace was restored between the two communities, but some miscreants were still fomenting trouble.
He stated also that police personnel had been deployed in the area to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
Anene added that the police were committed to bringing the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book.
