Plateau’s first lady donates farm tools to rural women

The  Wife of the Plateau Governor, Mrs Regina Lalong, has donated assorted farm tools, seeds and machinery worth millions of Naira to rural women in the North Central zone of the state.

Mrs Lalong  made the donations on Saturday in Pankshin Local Government Area along side wives of chairmen of the five local governments in the zone and that of the Deputy Governor.

She said that the gesture was part  of the celebration of the International Rural Women Day.

She urged the women to see themselves as agents

of positive change and deliberately discover and improve on their potential for the transformation of their families and the economic growth of the state.

“As Rural women, be deliberate about using your God giving potentials and skills to produce something out of nothing to better yourselves, your home and Plateau State.

“Today’s occasion is part of the International Rural Women Day with the theme: “Cultivating Good Food for All” ,therefore these items donated to you should be put into positive use for massive food production.

“I assure you if you do that, you will no doubt enhance the economic growth and development of the state and the nation, ” Mrs Lalong said.

She explained that the tools , improved seeds and machinery donated were for self empowerment of the rural woman to help boost their potentials efficiently and effectively.

Earlier, in her welcome address, wife of the Executive Chairman, Pankshin Local Government Area, Mrs Angelina Audu-Kakmena, commended the governor’s wife for the gesture.

Audu-Kakmena said the donation would go along way in empowering the rural women,and boast their economic status to support their families.

She also noted that it would greatly enhance agricultural and rural development and improve food production and security as well as eradicate rural poverty in the state.

Responding on behalf of the rural women, Mrs Jummai Gonji, thanked the governor’s wife for the gesture and assured her of their unalloyed support to the present government.

“I want to assure you, Ma, on behalf of the rural women, that the items given to us here will be Judiciously put to use so as to contribute our quota to the economic growth and development of Plateau and Nigeria,” Jummai said
