The National Association of Women Journalist, (NAWOJ), has solicited support from Ekiti Governor’s Wife, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, towards creating the enabling environment for female journalists to excel.
The NAWOJ Chairperson in Ekiti, State, Mrs Fatima Bello, made the appeal on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti, when she led the State Executive members on a courtesy visit to the governor’s wife in her office.
Mrs Bello requested for sponsorship of seminars on gender-based issues to broaden the knowledge of members, and the provision of utility vehicle for the Association.
Other requests by NAWOJ include the building of a creche for members to have a safe place to keep their babies while at work, among others.
She appreciated the Dr Kayode Fayemi-led present administration in the state for encouraging women to occupy both elective and leadership positions in politics.
The NAWOJ chairperson also commended the governor’s wife for providing necessary support to many people, who have been helpless while facing various forms of sexual and Gender Based Violence.
“Gender Based Violence is gradually becoming a thing of the past through your help, men now find it difficult to maltreat their wives because of the fear of the consequences,” she stressed.
Mrs Fayemi, thanked members of NAWOJ in the state for their cooperation on the fight against Gender Based Violence, urging them never to relent.
She assured the association that their requests would be looked into for immediate attention.
