A woman, suspected to be a kidnapper was on Monday lynched and set ablaze by an angry mob in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.
It was alleged that the woman had gone to an Arabic school in Kilanko, Offa Garage area in the state capital to take custody of a set of twins who were students of the Qoranic school in a suspicious manner.
She was said to have approached the school on the pretext that their mother had sent her to pick the twin from the school, a development that was strange to the school authority.
Things however worked against the suspected kidnapper when the mother of the kids was contacted and she denied ever sending anyone to pick the children for her.
A source said the mother quickly rushed to the school and confronted the woman that she did not send her to take custody of her twin which the latter could not deny.
The confusion that followed, according to eye witness accounts attracted passers-by who pulled the suspected kidnapper out of the school premises, dragged her to Offa Garage; a little distance away and lynched her.
Efforts by residents around the Arabic school and the management according to sources could not stop the irate crowd who gave her, instant jungle justice.
At the scene of the incident on Monday, charred remains of the lynched woman were lying on the road.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), of the state police command, Ajayi Okasanmi, DSP confirmed the incident when contacted.
“Before we got the information, the deed had been done and as we speak, policemen are already there making effort to arrest culprits” pointing out that already, some people had been arrested.
“I can assure you we are going to do just that because it is lawless for people to take life of another human being no matter the offence,” Okasanmi said.
He warned residents of the area not to take law into their hands, but rather, allow the law to take its course and not indulge in a jungle justice.
