Kidnapped Dino Melaye Resurfaces, Says He Spent 11hrs In ‘Wilderness’

The Senator representing Kogi East in the red chamber, Dino Melaye says he has regained his freedom after spending 11 hours in the “wilderness”.

From his Twitter handle on Friday, Melaye thanked Nigerians for their prayers while in “custody” of his abductors yet unknown.

He tweeted: “I thank God once again for escaping another dangerous attack. I also thank Nigerians for their prayers and show of Love. Spent 11 hours in the wilderness traumatized but God preserved me. God is the best and in whom ONLY I trust. They will continue to try. WE SHALL OVERCOME!!!”

Melaye’s brother had raised an alarm on Thursday that the senator had been kidnapped.

Melaye’s reported kidnap was then tweeted by Bayelsa Senator, Ben Murray Bruce, who reported that the Senator’s younger brother called him to inform him of the incident saying Melaye was bundled into a Toyota Sienna while he was travelling to Kogi.

However, Nigerian Police’s Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood said Melaye’s abduction was not reported by any member of his family and stated he escaped into the bush to avoid being kidnapped.

Melaye was absent on Thursday at a magistrate court in Lokoja, Kogi State, where his gun-running trial was adjourned till August 9.
