Wife of the Kwara State governor; Mrs Omolewa Ahmed on Wednesday , celebrated St Valentine Day with prisoners inside the Ilorin Federal prisons.
The Governor’s wife who went around prison facilities in Ilorin told the prisoners that she deemed it fit to celebrate Valentine Day and extend love to them.
The Kwrar first lady told the prisoners that they were not forgotten and that they must never despair in the love and forgiveness of God. She urged them to raise their hopes and be better citizens when they get back to the society.
According to her, the inmates must have a rethink, as the drama and songs presentation by the inmates showed that they have talents and could contribute positively to their society.
Mrs Omolewa said there was no doubt that people must appreciate freedom but comforted the prisoners to see their present situation as a phase that they would certainly overcome in life.
In his welcoming address, the Controller of Prisons for Mandala and Oke-Kura prisons, CP Francis Adebisi said it was novel for a governor’s wife to celebrate Valentine Day with prison inmates.
He commended Mrs Ahmed for her thoughtfulness and love which she had shown to the inmates.
The prison boss begged the governor’s wife for the provision of a bore-hole, workshops for the Ilorin prison as well as vocational training of inmates among others.
In their appreciation remarks, the inmates, represented by Ibrahim Ali-Jos appreciated the Valentine Day visit by the Governor’s wife and pledged that they would change their ways for the betterment of the country.
Food stuffs such as bags of rice, garri, corn, cooking oil and toiletries by the governor’s wife. She also indulged the prisons by cutting the Valentine Day cake with them.
