The Federal Controller of Works in Kwara, Mr Omotayo Awosanya has said that the sum of N10.9bn has been paid by the by the Federal Government to contractors handling three ongoing roads projects in Kwara State.
Awosanya made this known in Ilorin, the state capital while addressing newsmen at the end of an on-the-spot assessment visit to the projects in the state.
The three projects which were still ongoing are Michael Imoudu -Amayo road earlier awarded at N1.6bn Afon-Aboto-Oyo State boundary road awarded at N3bn and llorin-Jebba road awarded at the sum of N14.5bn.
The Controller was accompanied on the inspection visit to the project sites by the Director of Highways in the Federal Ministry of Works, Mr Bolar Aganaba.
He said the contractor handling the 3.8kms Michael Imoudu-Amayo road had taken N450m already; the one handling 26kms Afon-Aboto Oyo State boundary took N576m while the sum of N9.9b was paid to the contractor handling Ilorin-Jebba road.
The Controller of Works expressed satisfaction with the execution of the three road projects under construction expressing the readiness of the Federal Government to settle the contractors promptly if another set of certificates were raised by them to aid early completion of the projects.
The Director of Highways, Agababa also expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done on the projects promising that government would release more fund for early completion of the work.
A community leader in Ganmo Commuity, Alhaji Mashoood Lawal and Bale of Afon, Alhaji lbrahin Bale expressed their gratitude to the Federal Government for embarking on the construction of the roads.
However, a large section of Ganmo residents staged a peaceful protest during the visit calling for constant wetting of the road to save them from what has become a severe danger dusts posed to their health.
