The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) on Thursday organised a free medical outreach residents of Kurudu community, a suburb of the area council.
Mr Christopher Maikalangu, Chairman, AMAC, in his remarks during the exercise, said that the medical outreach was part of the dividends of democracy he promised AMAC residents during his campaign.
Maikalangu, represented by Mr Nasiru Usman, Vice-Chairman, AMAC, said that AMAC was committed to tackling the healthcare challenges faced by the aged and less-privileged persons in the area council.
He noted that there were many people with several medical needs as well as unknown and underlying health challenges.
”In view of this, the present administration in the council decided to use the exercise to awaken the consciousness of the pubic.
”This is with a view to adopt the principles of preventive health checks, which in turn would save lives and cost.
”It is the desire of our administration to use this forum to also enlighten and awaken the consciousness of the public to adopt the principles of preventive health checks, which will in turn save lives and costs,” he said.
He called on Civil Society Organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations, as well as good spirited persons to assist the area council, by replicating the gesture in other communities in the council.
