Police Arrest Two Poly Registrars Over Certificate Racketing 

….two others sanctioned for monetary fraud

The Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa Kwara State may be waiting for police report over its two Deputy Registrars who were linked with certificate racketing.

The duo, according to sources, were arrested earlier in the year by a team of policemen who came from Oshogbo, Osun State when a cartel of certificate forgeries was nabbed.

It was said that police investigations revealed that the two senior polytechnic officials were allegedly behind forged certificates of Offa Polytechnic found with the suspects arrested in Oshogbo.

Findings in the institution revealed that tongues are already wagging that the two Deputy Registrars namely Isiaka Agboola and Tiamiyu Sarafa were still on their duty desks even when a police case was hanging on their necks and no one seems to be talking.

Meanwhile sources said both the Governing Council headed by Chief Oseloka Zikora and the Rector, Dr. Lateef Olatunji might be putting arrangement in place to make the Osun Police Command brief the polytechnic on the officials in view of the negative image the matter had brought on the institution.

Similarly, a number of senior staff of the polytechnic had been reportedly indicted for fraud and asked by the council to account for various sums of money ranging from N490,000 to N12million.

The officers indicted according to sources included Mrs. Yewande Olabode with the staff number; FPO/ESTAB/SS/359 who was indicted to have misappropriated the sum of N12,308,155.00 which could not be accounted for.

Olabode was said to have been directed by the Governing Council to effect refund within one year and as well have her rank in the system reduced by two steps.

Also, Mr. Kayode Opaleye with staff number FPO/ESTAB/SS/286 was indicted and asked to refund the sum of N10million which he could not account for within one year. He would also lose two steps from his current ranks while another person; Oladimeji Badmus with staff number FPO/ESTAB/SS/765 is said to be asked to refund N650,000.

He would also lose one step of his present position a transferred from the Public Relations and Protocol Unit of the Polytechnic.

Both the Governing Council and the Rector according to sources were determined to rid the polytechnic of gross misconducts among the staff population particularly corruption in line with the anti corruption stance of the present Federal Government.
