Two suspected cult members who are students of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State have been suspended by the management of the institution.
The students; Tajudeen Selim and Temitope Omotosho were earlier in the week paraded as suspected cultists by the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Police in Ilorin, the state capital.
A statement signed by the polytechnic spokesman; Mr. Yinka Iroye had reported an incidence of forceful initiation by the suspects of an innocent student who reported them to the management.
Iroye said the school promptly reported the matter to the security agencies in Offa.
The spokesman commended the police for responding promptly which led to the arrest of the suspects.
According to him, the students had also been suspended indefinitely pending the outcome of the police investigations, based on the complaint of the student they attempted to forcefully initiate
Also, one Adewusi Vincent who was allegedly mentioned along with the two suspects was said to have ceased to be a student of the institution because he had been withdrawn from the Polytechnic since 2017 for poor performances in his academics.
The Management wishes to state unequivocally that cases of cultism has been a thing of past in the institution as the new management under Dr. LateefAdemola Olatunji has purged the institution of all forms of cultism, gangsterism and other anti social vices since he came on board as Rector in 2017.
“The Management has been dealing decisively with any student suspected to be involved in cultism or any other criminal acts.
“Other offences such as examination malpractices, sexual harassment are also gross misconduct at the Polytechnic which attract outright expulsion from the institution. Students found culpable are equally handed over to the Law Enforcement Agents for prosecution”, the statement added.
Also, it was stated that the Directorate of Students’ Affairs of the institution to put a lot of measures in place to checkmate cultism with the introduction of the use of compulsory security forms for newly admitted students; regular sensitization of students menace.
