Abia Warriors FC of Umuahia say they are targeting a win in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) week 13 tie against Rangers International in Nnewi, Anambra.
The club’s Media Officer, Chigozie Nwosu, said on Saturday that the club would square up against their opponents at the FC IfeanyiUba stadium.
“We have all it takes to pick the three points at stake because we are adequately prepared for the match.
“Abia Warriors have not lost a league match in Nnewi even when we confronted FC Ifeanyi Ubah at the stadium, which is now Rangers’ adopted home ground.
“This is an advantage over Rangers as the venue appears to be an away turf for them. We are not afraid of Rangers with their experienced players. But we will only respect them.
“Another advantage we have is that our current coach, Imama Amakapabo, once led Rangers to win the league crown in 2016,” he said.
Nwosu added that after their recent disappointing 1-1 draw with Nasarawa United the technical crew returned to the drawing board to marshal the team to winning ways.
“We are aware that the match is an Oriental Derby and we will ensure that the worst we can pull at the end of 90 minutes is a draw.
“We are going to bank on the experience of some of our players who once played for Rangers,” he said.
Rangers currently play their home matches at the FC IfeanyiUba Stadium in Nnewi due to rehabilitation works at their home ground, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
