COVID-19: CACOVID Launches N23bn Food Palliative For 1.7m Households

Nigeria’s Private Sector led Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID) yesterday formally announced the flag-off of a nationwide distribution of multi-billion naira food palliative and other relief items to mitigate the adverse effects of the novel coronavirus pandemic on vulnerable Nigerians. The food relief materials for which the private sector operators are spending about N23 billion, will cover 1.7 families amounting to about 10 million people across the 774 local governments in the country, including the Federal Capital Territory. Gambia Declares State Of Emergency Over Coronavirus Spread

Gambian President Adama Barrow has declared a state of emergency and introduced nationwide night curfew for 21 days as coronavirus cases keep rising. The president said the borders and airspace will remain closed except for cargo, diplomats and those seeking treatment abroad. He said the rising cases were “worrisome”, Anadolu news agency reports. On the 5th of August 2020, 457 new confirmed cases and 17 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
